Cultural Cadence Cycle
A Ride For Indigenous Peoples' Day
Through shared rhythms of cycling, participants come together to celebrate the rich heritage and ongoing contributions of Indigenous peoples.
f
Monday October 14, 2024
Phoenix, AZ – A 7-mile, social-paced bike ride uniting the cycling community in celebration and recognition of Indigenous Peoples' Day. The ride aims to honor Indigenous cultures, acknowledge the ancestral lands of the region, and promote unity and awareness within the cycling community.
Cultural Cadence Cycle:
The rhythm, flow, and continuity of cultural practices, traditions, and values over time. In the context of a cycling event it symbolizes the harmonious movement and unity of participants as they ride together, reflecting on the ongoing and dynamic nature of Indigenous cultures. The word "cadence" here suggests a steady, rhythmic pace that honors and preserves cultural heritage while moving forward with purpose and respect.
Volunteer Opportunities
Set Up Support (2)
6:00am Arrival to help set up the event and guide vendors to their location
Registration / Check-In (4)
Support event attendees with checking in, Assignment to a Ride Marshall Team and introduction to the day's activities
Ride Marshalls (10 - 12)
These roles are for experienced group ride leaders within the cyclist community. Preferably a Lead Marshall and Sweep Marshall will have worked together in the past through a ride or organization and we can assign a Group name to reflect this. Details about the Ride Marshall Responsibilities are detailed below.
Midway Stop Setup / Teardown (4)
These roles will be given equipment, way-finding signage and a description on how to set everything up at Steele Indian Park. Communication with the event management team will happen before the day of the event.
Bike Valet @ Bike Racks (12)
When attendees arrive back at the Heard Museum after the event they will be encouraged to use a free bike valet so that they may enjoy other activities happening at the Heard Museum throughout the day. We need two ore more volunteers to run this service from 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM
Event tear down (6)
Around 11:00 AM the Cultural Cadence Cycle will come to a close while other activities continue at the Heard Museum. With this in mind, we are looking for support getting C3's event equipment and vendors out quickly to make room for others to begin their activity set up.
AN ADDITIONAL GOAL FOR THE EVENT IS TO INTRODUCE BEST PRACTICES FOR URBAN CYCLING TO A NEW AUDIENCE. RIDE MARSHALLS ARE PARAMOUNT TO ACHIEVING THIS GOAL
